The Individuality of Rudolf Steiner

His incarnations from his first to that of Rudolf Steiner

This is a brief overview of the Individuality of Rudolf Steiner as shared by Bernard Lievegoed in his book The Battle for the Soul.

Enkidu

Young soul who as yet (in the time of Gilgamesh) has no life experience and still lives entirely in the laws of the cosmos, remaining in the first phase of his life entirely in the etheric world. He is still totally bound up with the life forces in nature and is unconscious of himself. In the second phase of this first incarnation he is seduced by a temple dancer of the Ishtar sanctuary, which results in the awakening of his astral body, causing him to lose his connection with nature. Soon after he meets Gilgamesh.

Cratylus

A pupil of Heraclitus (as told by Aristotle). Ancient Greek culture, in the immediate vicinity of the mysteries of Ephesus. The old Cratylus became the teacher of the still very young Plato.

Aristotle

Soon after the death of Cratylus, Cratylus incarnated as Aristotle, who was a student of a very old Plato. He eventually became the counsellor of the young king Alexander. Aristotle's writings had been lost for centuries before being found in the cellar of a monastery in Syria. His philosophy remains influential in the Western world.

Parzival meets Sigune, the dead Schionatulander across her lap
Middle Ages
circa 1200 A.D.

Schionatulander

The stream of the Grail (Parzival).

Raised by Queen Ampflise of France, Schionatulander fell in love with Sigune. He accompanied Gahmuret, Perceval's father, on his adventures in Baghdad.

Later, back in Britain, he was with Sigune in a forest when he happened upon a hunting dog wearing an ornate leash. Upon the leash was written a story of two lovers named Clauditte and Enkunaht. Before Schionatulander and Sigune could finish the story, the hound broke free and ran off into the forest. Sigune asked Schionatulander to retrieve the hound so she could see how the tale ended.

During his quest to retrieve it, Schionatulander encountered Duke Orilus of Lalander and was slain in combat. In mourning of his death, Sigune lived in cloister at Schionatulander's tomb and was buried next to him upon her early passing.

Thomas Aquinas

The Christianization of Aristolean philosophy

Dominican friar and priest, the foremost Scholastic thinker, as well one of the most influential philosophers and theologians in the Western tradition. He was from the county of Aquino in the Kingdom of Sicily.

As Thomas, he takes the intellectual soul to the limits of its intellectual capacity within the limitations of the cultural period in which he lives. In the development of the human intellect it is not possible to go further than Thomas.

Rudolf Steiner

As Kali Yuga (3101 BC - 1899 AD*) was at its end, only then could RS incarnate as Rudolf Steiner, when a new revelation for humanity is possible, to put into words without inhibitions his insights into the spiritual world. He then acts as the great teacher and creates the powerful world image of Anthroposophy.

* 1899 is the start of an important new period with, from the 20th century onwards, the start of a period with gradual appearance of natural clairvoyance also called the appearance of 'Christ in the etheric'.
