The Centerpoint: Meaning & Purpose

The relation between esotericism and exoteric religion, or Christianity, is a subtle one. In the exoteric church, the word “repentance” is derived from the word in Greek, metanoia. It is usually defined as a change in life direction. However this is an outward change that is sought. The word in Greek literally means a “change of mind” i.e. an internal change. In ordinary life, attention is directed outward toward the world of sensation, thoughts and feelings. Directing the mind within, making that shift of attention inward, toward the center of one’s being, beyond all thought and feelings, God meets the individual Self.

Dorotheus of Gaza, a desert Abba in the 6th century, drew a circle in the sand with lines drawn to meet in the center.

centerpoint-sand“Imagine that the world is a circle, that God is the center, and that the radii are the different ways human beings live. When those who wish to come closer to God walk towards the center of the circle, they come closer to one another at the same time as to God. The closer they come to God, the closer they come to one another. And the closer they come to one another, the closer they come to God.” (Instructions VI.)

We can expand this a bit to gain a better understanding of the relationship between esotericism and the exoteric religion. The outer circle represents the external, or exoteric, church, while esotericism is represented by the inner circle. It is important to understand that esotericism does not encompass only (Mystical) Christianity. Indeed, it is founded on Mystery Wisdom that goes back thousands of years. The mysticism of all true religions can be traced back to these same sources.

As individuals move toward the center, which is God, the All, the Absolute, etc., they find themselves touching upon esotericism. Some individuals are able, through much hard work, to break beyond the knowledge offered by esoteric wisdom (i.e. pierce the veil) and experience “heaven” while they are still here in the realm of Maya.

I cannot find a simpler way to illustrate the intent of this website. It is meant to help others, you, find your path to your inner kingdom – the kingdom of God within, where we can all “meet” and realize this change in our focus leads us to a change in life that grows organically out of an increased, higher consciousness. As this consciousness reveals a deeper understanding of the inner world, love, kindness and compassion become who we really are, who we are truly meant to be.

About Anthony (the Scribe)

Though I am, by numerical age, an old man now of sixty-one, I have never been so alive. I have found that my sincere pursuit of Truth affords me a great quantity of Grace (if such can be quantified). I read early on in the Bible that the (Holy) Spirit will bring to your understanding what you seek when 1. you earnestly desire it, and 2. when you are ready to hear it. So I might ask you, dear reader – are you ready to hear the Truth? You do not need physical proof of what you read here, for if that is what you seek – physical, tangible proof of what is presented – not only will you be disappointed and perhaps disillusioned but you will show yourself to be insincere in your desire for Truth. However, if your desire is indeed sincere: Seek! And you WILL find.

Everything else about me is unimportant except perhaps that I have been happily married to my soul mate for thirty years. Without her I fear that I would not be half the person I have become. Without her I would be far weaker a Human Being than I am with her. It is the Love that she and I share that is the proving ground – our struggles together, facing challenges in life “one thing after another”, as well as the joys that life provides – for my continued Spiritual growth and strengthening.

That said, I am a fallible Human Being striving to set right everything that is wrong with my (inner) self. Within each one of us there are two selves – the lower self that is driven by sheer physical passion, desires and emotions, and the higher self that is at the root a morally pure, spiritual being. In my experience what I see in the world around me are people who exemplify outwardly the first sort. There are also those who struggle, who “ride the fence” between animal tendencies (which are proclivities that lack conscience) and the spiritual within themselves (the Kingdom of God is within you). These in this third group travel a dangerous road and, admittedly, I have traveled that road for a long time and in many ways still do. Few in my experience have ever shown themselves to be in the second group.

There is an old saying: Within each of us lives two wolves; a good wolf and an evil wolf. These two war continuously. The one that wins is the one we feed the most. However the war never ends. What we strive to do in the quest for the Holy Grail (of moral purity and Love) is to tip the scales more toward what is good in us and kill that which is evil in ourselves.

“Life is motion, action and energy. When we do not advance, we fall back. If we stop, we are beaten and ultimately outdistanced. If we are silent, we are soon forgotten. We cannot stand still.”
– Nelson Douglass Jr.

The above is the motto I strive to live by from day to day. It motivates me to move forward, to avoid inertia. I have another motto, something that “came to me” one day that, as each day passes, makes more and more sense and proves itself to be true:

“If anything is possible, then everything is probable.”

I’ll leave you with these thoughts.

There exists two spiritual worlds, extending and penetrating throughout this whole visible creation. One is Light and Spiritual Life. The other is Darkness and Spiritual Death. They exist and they manifest themselves in the physical realm according to the current state of human consciousness. Humanity has developed through, and gained from, the Intelligence Consciousness, but it has come with a dire price. Humanity has made “intelligence” into the new god of our being. We have now embarked into the era of the Spiritual Consciousness – it’s development – and we are now faced with a war that battles for our very Soul, our connection to the All, to God. This is not fancy, nor fairy tale. To take a moment, only a moment, and throw aside all of the external influences and conditioning, one can catch a glimpse of the Real Reality of Life. It is a bold thing to do, to look inward for the Truth of oneself, the Truth of what we really are – Spiritual beings, God particles, possessors of Divine Love that seeks its way free of the material-bound prison in which we have placed it and kept it hidden. Like it or not, this is the time of humanity’s awakening. Half will awaken to the Darkness and follow it… The other half will awaken to the Light and follow it. There is a war coming, a war of all against all. There will be only two sides. There will be no neutrality. Now is the time to choose, for the battle has begun. External vision reveals the darkness has had it’s victory thus far. But it is powerless against the Internal Light, once released. Look within, with internal vision. Find your Light. Awaken it into a blazing fire and dispel the darkness around you. It takes only one flame from one candle to break the darkness. The flame of a thousand, a million, candles can eradicate, will eradicate, darkness forever.
